Directions to the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

Note: The New York State Thruway changes its interstate number designation at Exit 24 near Albany where it intersects the beginning of the Northway (I-87) going to Montreal. West of Exit 24, the Thruway is designated as I-90. From Exit 24, the Thruway continues South towards New York City designated as I-87. This number change confuses many first time visitors to Albany. Adding to this confusion, there is an I-90 express freeway which goes from Exit 24 east to intersect with the Berkshire spur of the Thruway which connects into the Mass Turnpike. I have tried to make the directions below as clear as possible to eliminate some of the confusion. Just remember, you want Exit 23 of the New York State Thruway!

From the South

Take the New York State Thruway (I-87) to Exit 23. Then follow the Directions from Exit 23 listed below.

From the North

Take the Northway (I-87) south until you reach the New York State Thruway which joins with the Northway at Exit 24. Take the Thruway (which becomes I-87 at this point) south/east towards New York City. Go one exit to Exit 23 and then follow the Directions from Exit 23 listed below.

From the East

Take the Mass Turnpike west to the New York State Thruway. Do not take the exit for I-90 to Albany (This is an expressway shortcut to Exit 24 of the New York State Thruway with access to downtown Albany). Instead keep going straight until you cross the Hudson River over a large bridge. Immediately after the bridge, take the exit ramp onto Thruway (I-87) heading North/West towards Albany and Buffalo. Then follow the Directions from Exit 23 listed below.

From the West

Take the New York State Thruway to Exit 23. Then follow the Directions from Exit 23 listed below.

Directions from Exit 23 of the New York State Thruway

Take New York Thruway Exit 23. As you go through the toll booths, bear right and go up the exit ramp to Route 9W. Turn left onto Rt 9W. The road will curve to the left and as you come to the second signal light (about a tenth of a mile from the exit ramp) turn sharp right onto McCarty Street (you may see a blue & white hospital sign). Go about 50 yards and turn left onto Frisbee Street (you'll see baseball and soccer fields on both sides as you go down Frisbee). Keep going straight through the next traffic light (the street you'll cross is called Second Ave). Stay on the same street as it bends to the right and intersects in a T with Slingerlands Street. Turn left on Slingerlands Street and follow it as it curves around a high school and finally intersects in a T with Morton Avenue. (Note: Don't be confused if you look at the street signs at the intersection with Morton Ave. At that point Slingerlands Street changes it name to become Oneida Terrace. )

As you turn left on to Morton Avenue, you'll travel about 100 yards and cross over Delaware Avenue (traffic light). Keep going straight even though the street now has changed its name to Holland Avenue. Keep straight on Holland past the MacDonalds and VA Medical Center on your right. Turn left onto Notre Dame Drive (just before the Law School parking lot) If you go until Holland intersects with New Scotland Avenue, you went too far.

Go straight down Notre Dame until you reach the ACP dormitory (seven story brick building on your left). Turn right into the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences parking area (there will be signs directing you). The ACPHS Gymnasium is the brick building closest to parking lots. In case you get lost, the College address is 106 New Scotland Avenue and is located directly across New Scotland Avenue from the Albany Medical Center (which most folks in Albany know).
